Indore was founded in 1715 as a trade market along the Narmada River valley route by local landowners, who built the Indreshwar Temple (1741), which gave rise to the name Indore. Indore, known as the Commercial Capital of Madhya Pradesh, was the Holkars' capital. The city is known for its history, monuments, food, and bazaars. It is the largest and most densely populated city in central India. Indore is considered an important commercial center in Madhya Pradesh. It is one of India's fastest-growing cities and home to the third oldest stock exchange, the Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange.
