About Bikaner

Bikaner is a beautiful city in Rajasthan's northwest. The stunning location is 330 km northwest of Jaipur, the state capital. Biswanath Bikaner is the district and divisional headquarters.

The city celebrates its foundation day on Akshaya Tritiya by flying kites and having fun. Other ways to celebrate include eating traditional Rajasthani food like Bajre Ka Khichda and Imli ka Paani (Tamarind Water). The atmosphere is very pious, so the celebration is split into two days, Chhoti Akha Teej and Badi Akha Teej. During these two days, from early morning at 5-6am until late sunset, people can be seen flying kites. Given the extreme desert weather, standing for long hours under the bright Sun is a torture in itself. That's why a simple home-made drink like Tamarind Water can help prevent heat stroke.
